Was Suryakumar Yadav’s Catch Legit? South African fans raise questions

In the last over of the T20 World Cup Final match between India and South Africa was a nail-biting match. But a moment of controversy and question came out for Suryakumar Yadav’s magnificent catch to dismiss David Miller.

During the 20th over, Miller sent a full toss from Hardik Pandya towards the long-off boundary. Yadav, somehow, came out of nowhere launching himself in a spectacular dive just before the ball seemed to cross the ropes. However, replays showed that the boundary cushion might have been slightly moved.

After the replays, the third umpire declared it as a clear catch. However, South African fans took it to social media to share zoomed in footage and expressed their doubts over the decision.

Videos have been circulating X with people saying that Surya’s foot might have touched the displaced cushion, which specifies that they believe it was a six and not an out. This sparked debate about the legitimacy of the catch and its impact on the match.

Tweets like this have been floating where people have shown zoomed-in footage of the catch replay saying that the catch deserved more than one replay.

Former South African captain Shaun Pollock stepped in to offer his much-needed perspective.

“The catch was fine. The cushion had moved, but that’s in the course of the game. It had nothing to do with Surya. He didn’t stand on the cushion. Brilliant bit of skill,” Pollock said in a video.
