Rohit Sharma-led side has created history at the Kensington Oval in Babados on June 29, 2024 a they beat South Africa in the finals of the T20 World Cup. This was India’s 2nd World T20 title across all 9 editions of the tournament. Rohit Sharma, who took over as skipper in the later stages of 2021, has now delivered and is only the third skipper after Kapil dev and MS Dhoni to hold an ICC title.
Rohit is the only player to have played all the editions of the T20 World Cup and is the only player to win World Cup as both a player and a skipper of the Indian team. After India won the World Cup, Rohit surprised everyone with his decision to retire from the T20I format. It was an open secret wit experts talking about it for a long time, but it was the timing of announcement that shocked everybody.
Hours after India won the World Cup, Rohit Sharma’s country-brother and his Mumbai Indians teammate Suryakumar Yadav shared an appreciation post for the Indian skipper.
‘Captain Ro, Thank you for showing us how it’s done!, The Absolute Best’, Suryakumar posted on both his X and instagram account.
Suryakumar was later handed the best fielder medal in the team dressing room, a ritual that the Indian team has carried on since the ODI World Cup hosted by India in 2023.
