EN, FR, PR: Angola, Namibia win at HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup 2024
Angola and Namibia produced crucial wins in Group C at the HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup 2024 on Monday, but Seychelles and Lesotho are still alive in an intriguing pool.
Angola led early on against Seychelles but then had to come from behind to gain a 3-2 victory in a thrilling fixture, denying the islanders what would have been just their second ever win at the COSAFA Cup.
Depu put Angola ahead inside nine minutes, but Johan Gamatice equalised for Seychelles to send the teams into the break level at 1-1.
Brandon Labrosse then had Seychelles ahead within a minute of the re-start, but Depu equalised just before the hour-mark and Maestro lived up to his name by scoring the winner on 79 minutes.
Seychelles have only once before scored more than their current three goals in a COSAFA Cup campaign and they still have a game to go. That was in 2008 when they defeated Mauritius 7-0, their only COSAFA Cup win, and then also netted against Madagascar.
Namibia were 2-1 winners over Lesotho in another entertaining clash played in front of a sizeable crowd.
Ivan Kamberipa put Namibia in front on 36 minutes but Lesotho found the equaliser just after halftime through Neo Mokhachane.
Namibia looked the most likely to score again and that goal arrived following a composed finish from Bethuel Muzeu.
Angola top the pool going into Wednesday’s final round of games. They and Namibia have four points and a +1 goal-difference, but Angola have scored three goals to Namibia’s two.
Lesotho and Seychelles have a point each and are not out of contention for the semifinals.
The action continues on Tuesday with four matches, two each at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and two more at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium.
Entrance will be FREE with tickets for available at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium ticket office and the USAVE Kwazakhele adjacent to Isaac Wolfson Stadium on a first come, first served basis.
Group B will conclude when Zimbabwe look to top the pool by gaining a draw at least in their clash with Kenya at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium (kick-off 12h00).
The Warriors are in the pound seats to book a place in the semi-finals, but conversely could yet fail to reach the knockout stages.
That is because there could be three teams on six points come the end of play and that will require some calculations.
If Kenya beat Zimbabwe and Comoros do likewise to already ousted defending champions Zambia at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (12h00 CAT) then we will have a trio of clubs level at the top.
It will then come down to points in matches between them, then goal-difference and if that fails to separate the teams, goals scored.
Group A will also be completed on Tuesday as hosts South Africa take on Eswatini at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and Mozambique meet Botswana at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium in what is the tightest of pools. Both games kick-off at 15h00 CAT.
All four teams are on two points meaning anything can happen in this group.
What is likely is that only top spot will be good enough as traditionally the best second-placed team in the pool stages has gone through with six points. The maximum these teams can get is five.
Currently South Africa lead the pool on Fair Play points, but that could change rapidly on Tuesday.

L’Angola et la Namibie émergent enfin
Le groupe C a enfin livré des vainqueurs. Lundi au Wolfson Stadium, l’Angola s’est imposé sur le fil contre des Seychellois qui ont chèrement vendu leur peau. Les Angolais se sont imposés 3-2. Un peu plus tard, la Namibie s’est imposés avec beaucoup de difficultés contre le Lesotho 2-1.
On a assisté à un spectacle de haute facture entre l’Angola et les Seychelles lundi. Le score en dit long sur le déroulement de la rencontre d’ailleurs. Aurélio a d’abord ouvert le score à la 8e minute. Un but précoce qui n’a pas décontenancé les Pirates puisque Gamatis égalisera avant la demi-heure de jeu. Les Seychellois prendront se replaceront même devant après le but de Labrosse juste après la pause d’une magnifique reprise de volée. Mais Aurélio surgira une nouvelle fois à la 58e minute puis Muanza offrira les trois points de la victoire aux Angolais.
Dans le deuxième match, la Namibie et le Lesotho se sont livrés un duel sans merci. Ce sont finalement les Brave Warriors qui ont eu le dernier mot en s’imposant 2-1. Kamberipa a d’abord ouvert le score à la 38eminute. Mais en face Mokhachane a remis les deux formations sur le même pied d’égalité. Mais à la 69eminute de jeu, Muzeu sortit de sa boite pour offrir les trois points à la Namibie.
Laurindo Aurélio a été récompensé pour son doublé. Il est reparti avec le titre de joueur du match. Aprocius Petrus s’est aussi vu décerné ce titre pour son impact face au Lesotho.
Ce jeudi, il y aura de la joie et de la déception. La ‘finale’ du groupe A et B laissera certainement un goût amer à certaines équipes. Le Kenya affronte le Zimbabwe à midi au Wolfson Stadium. Les Zimbabwéens ont signé leur retour à la compétition de manière fracassante. Ils n’ont besoin que d’un point pour valider leur billet pour le dernier carré Après ce qu’à montré le Kenya au cours de sa dernière sortie qui s’est achevée sur un revers, ses représentants ne partent pas favoris dans ce duel.
Dans le même temps, les Comoriens tenteront de profiter de la méforme de la Zambie pour tenter un miracle. Cette formation peur toujours espérer terminer meilleur deuxième du tournoi à condition de l’emporter avec la manière. Attention toutefois aux Chipolopolos. Blessés dans leur orgueil, les champions en titre n’ont pas l’intention de quitter la compétition sur une troisième défaite de rang.
A 15h, ce seront aux pensionnaires du groupe A d’essayer d’accéder dans le dernier carré. Le Mozambique ouvrira le bal avec le Botswana. Les deux formations possèdent un point. Les Mambas sont légèrement au-dessus puisqu’ils ont marqué un but alors que les Zèbres n’ont toujours pas trouvé le chemin des filets. En danger malgré sa première place au tableau, l’Afrique du Sud doit enfin gagner après deux matchs nul sans saveur.
Les Bafana Bafana affrontent l’Eswatini au Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium et tiennent la corde dans ce duel. Ils devront rester vigilant néanmoins pour éviter le retour de leurs voisins. A noter que les premiers de chaque groupe se qualifient directement pour le dernier carré. Le tableau sera compété par le meilleur deuxième sur l’ensemble des trois poules.
Angola afunda Seychelles, Namíbia trava Lesotho e deixa tudo em aberto!
Depois do empate sem golos na estreia diante do vizinho Namíbia (0-0), a selecção de honras de Angola conseguiu vencer, hoje, a sua congénere das Seychelles, por 3-2, em partida pontuável para a segunda jornada do Grupo C da 23ª edição da Taça COSAFA, que se disputa na cidade litorânea de Port Elizabeth, actual Gqeberha. No segundo jogo, Namíbia bateu o Lesotho (1-2), com os golos de Ivan Kamberipa (38´), para Namíbia, Neo Mockhachane (54´) e Muzeu Betuel (69´) para o Lesotho.
Com estes desfechos, tudo fica em aberto, ou seja, os semifinalistas deste grupo, serão conhecidos na próxima quarta-feira, uma vez que Angola e Namíbia partilham os mesmos pontos (4).
Os comandados do técnico português, Pedro Gonçalves, foram os primeiros a inaugurar o marcador quando estavam jogados apenas oito minutos. Laurindo Aurélio, artilheiro a serviço do Herta de Berlim (Alemanha), abriu as hostilidades, mas aos 26, antes do intervalo, Johan Gamatis, empatou o placard (1-1).
À entrada para a segunda etapa, os insulares entraram confiantes e voltaram a liderar na contagem por Brandon (46´), não obstante, os Palancas Negras, puxaram de si restabelecendo a igualdade (2-2), a passagem do minuto 58 por meio de Laurindo Aurélio, que se junta agora ao zimbabueano Michael Tapera, na lista dos melhores marcadores com dois (2) golos. O terceiro golo para os angolanos, surgiu aos 78 minutos, na sequência de um livre teleguiado de António Muanza, que foi a parar dentro das malhas à guarda de Ah-Kong Ian , guarda-redes das Seychelles.
Uma vitória, que de resto, coloca os angolanos no topo da tabela classificativa com quatro pontos e com fortes possibilidades de assegurar a sua presença nas meias-finais, bastando para tal, vencer nesta quarta-feira, o Lesotho, terceiro classificado (1), no Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, às 15h00. A mesma hora, no Wolfson Stadium, Namíbia bater-se-á com as Seychelles.
Entretanto, amanhã será o dia das decisões para os grupos A e B, ou seja, serão conhecidos os representantes de cada série para a fase seguinte, sendo que no Grupo A, tudo está em aberto a par da outra série (B).
À entrada para esta ronda, África do Sul, Moçambique, Botswana e Eswatini estão com dois (2) pontos na classificação, em virtude dos empates registados nas anteriores jornadas (2).
Assim sendo, de acordo com o regulamento da prova, os sul-africanos ocupam a primeira posição em virtude do critério “Fair Play”, ou seja, os Bafana Bafana estão com menos um cartão amarelo do que Moçambique, que ocupa a segunda posição, seguindo Botswana, na terceira e, na última, Eswatini.
Com efeito, Moçambique bate-se com Botswana no Wolfson Stadium (15h00), mesma hora em que África do Sul estará com Eswatini, no Estádio Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Quem está na eminência de carimbar o passaporte para as “meias”, é o regressado Zimbabwe, líder destacado do Grupo B com seis pontos, frutos de dois triunfos, primeiro contra as Comores (1-0) e o segundo frente a Zâmbia por tangenciais 2-0. Dependentes de si, os “Guerreiros”, nome de guerra do Zimbabwe precisam apenas de uma vitória ou no mínimo um empate para seguir em frente.
Deste modo, Zimbabwe terá que vencer, amanhã o convidado Quénia, terceiro classificado (3), enquanto que Comores, na segunda posição, com os mesmos pontos (3), bate-se com o lanterna vermelha, Zâmbia, actual campeã em título.
Com os dados lançados, estão criadas as condições para se assistir a derradeira corrida rumo ao almejado título da maior competição regional que este ano completa 27 anos de existência.
