A pleasant start to July around Portland

Stay with the KOIN 6 Weather Team for the latest updates as Portland prepares for another round of summer heat.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — As we tip-off July, we'll enjoy pleasant afternoons over the next few days with more seasonal temperatures expected around the metro area as daytime highs climb in the upper 70s or low 80s.

Our skies will have a mix of clouds, mostly in the morning, with more sun breaks in the afternoon starting Monday and lasting until Wednesday.

Monday morning, there's still a slight chance of a spotty light rain shower or two around the metro area and in the northern part of our coast. Rain accumulation from Monday morning to Tuesday afternoon is expected to total about .04-inch of rain in Portland.

Toasty Temps Ahead

While we look to the holiday weekend, we're expecting temperatures to be the hottest we've seen so far this year.

We will really start to feel the heat once we hit the Fourth of July. So, it's time to get prepared for another hot holiday weekend again this year after last year's July 5th daytime high was a record for that day — 97 degrees. Right now, Friday's forecast calls for high of 98 degrees in Portland.

The magnitude and duration of this heat is still to be determined as weather models are not yet in agreement. So expect the forecast to adjust as we head into the week.

But we'll need to have the fans or air conditioning working overtime, while we grab the sunscreen, stay hydrated and try to stay cool late in the week.
