Churchtown Fire Company shutting down

In a press release, Churchtown Fire Company announced they will not be responding to fire or medical emergencies in the district as of Monday. The Claverack and Taghkanic Town Boards decided to dissolve and incorporate the Churchtown Fire Protection District into their respective Fire Districts.

CHURCHTOWN, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- In a press release, Churchtown Fire Company announced they will not be responding to fire or medical emergencies in the district as of Monday. The Claverack and Taghkanic Town Boards decided to dissolve and incorporate the Churchtown Fire Protection District into their respective Fire Districts.

The department has been in place for the last 89 years. The directors and members of the Churchtown Fire Department say the primary response will be offered by the Taghkanic or the Claverack Fire Company.
