Chelsea sign teenage striker Marc Guiu from Barcelona

Chelsea have announced the signing of highly-rated Barcelona sensation Marc Guiu on a five-year deal with the option for an additional year.

The Blues paid €6 million to activate his release clause and pip other European giants to his signature.

Guiu came through Barca’s ranks and made his senior debut in a game against Athletic Bilbao in October 2023 following an injury to Robert Lewandowski. He bagged the winner, announcing himself to the world.

However, the return of the legendary Polish striker and the January signing of Vitor Roque has sidelined the Spain youth international.

Guiu has completed the switch to England and hopes to be a part of Chelsea’s pre-season, where he can make an impression on new boss Enzo Maresca.

Upon signing, Guiu said (via Chelsea’s website): “It’s an immense joy to sign for Chelsea, and I struggled to sleep ahead of the journey here because I was so excited.

“Ever since I was small, it was my dream to play in the Premier League. Now I have the opportunity to come here to Chelsea, and I will work my hardest to be successful for the club.”

The West Londoners are poised for a busy week, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall set to be announced today in a deal that will send Cobham Academy graduate Michael Golding to the Foxes.

The 25-year-old Dewsbury-Hall joins to bolster Chelsea’s already super-crowded midfield, but his previous working relationship with Maresca might give him an edge.

Chelsea also announced the departure of Lewis Hall, who joined Newcastle United permanently for £28 million following his one-year loan spell at the Tyneside club.

Over the weekend, Chelsea agreed to sell Omari Hutchinson to Ipswich Town for £22 million as the Blues look to balance their books amid Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) fears.

Chelsea have been typically overactive in the transfer window, signing Omari Kellyman, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Guiu.
