Glastonbury SLAMMED by furious fans as 70,000 people turn up to watch Avril Lavigne at ‘dangerously overcrowded’ stage

ANGRY Glastonbury-goers have accused festival organisers for allowing ‘dangerous overcrowding’ during Avril Lavigne’s set.

The Canadian pop-punk star, 39, drew a huge crowd of 70,000 people when she made her festival debut on The Other Stage on Sunday afternoon.

While the scenes looked jubilant on TV, some were felt unsafe in the huge crowd.

One person raged on X: “The Avril Lavigne crowd is a joke… just taken an entire hour to walk like sardines from one side of the stage to the other. why the f**k is she not on pyramid? they keep putting people on the wrong stages it’s unsafe.”

Another said: “Totally agree! We abandoned as it didn’t feel safe.”

A third posted: “Sorry but was dangerously silly busy.”

A fourth wrote: “Crowd so big for Avril Lavigne at the Other Stage people are having to stand in the campsite!! Crazy stuff!”

Others said it felt inevitable the moment the timings were released, with Janelle Monae, Kim Gordon and Brittany Howard her main competition

One ticket-holder vented: “Who could’ve foreseen this? (Well, everyone except Emily Eavis & her team) We all called it the moment the schedule was released.”

The set was a hit for Avril, who took to Instagram afterwards and wrote: “Wow! Thank you everyone who came out to see me at Glastonbury. So happy to be back in The UK.”

Her 55 minute 12-song set included noughties classics Girlfriend, Complicated and Sk8er Boi.

If Avril’s set was too busy, then Sunday night Pyramid Stage headliner SZA suffered from the opposite issue.

The US R&B star pulled in one of the smallest closing night audiences on the main stage in memory and, like others that graced it this weekend, suffered sound issues from the off.

The 34-year-old soldiered on regardless and put on an arresting show in the circumstances.

She finished by telling the crowd: “Glastonbury, I was so nervous to be here with you today.

“I’m so grateful, you have my deepest love and my deepest respect. I love you always, god bless you.

“Get home safely, my name is SZA, good night.”
