Former Ida B. Wells students identified in deadly crash involving stolen vehicle

The crash left two people dead and two injured, one with life-threatening injuries.

PORTLAND, ore. (KOIN) — Two people who died after crashing a car that was reported as stolen have been identified as former Portland high school students.

In an email shared last Wednesday, Portland Public Schools notified families that former Ida B. Wells students Dylan Brasky and Jayden Rolon-Ekis were killed in the crash. The two were sophomores who recently transferred to Portland Community College.

A third student, who was identified as a recent Ida B. Wells graduate, was left seriously injured by the collision.

The incident occurred around 12:14 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, at Southeast 159th Avenue and Southeast Division Street. Portland authorities said Gresham police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the drivers eluded officers and later crashed into a second vehicle and a utility pole — causing a power outage in the area.

Brasky and Rolon-Ekis were found dead at the scene. The third passenger was driven to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Portland police learned that the first vehicle was reported stolen after the crash.
