Man shot near Washington Square Park after NYC Pride Parade

GREENWICH VILLAGE, Manhattan (PIX11) --- A man was shot twice during the chaos at Washington Square Park hours after the NYC Pride Parade, police said.

The 21-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and hand near East 9th Street and Fifth Avenue just after 2 a.m. Monday, according to the NYPD. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred two blocks from Washington Square Park, where thousands of people congregated after the Pride Parade, according to Mayor Eric Adams.

The NYPD was forced to shut down the park after multiple fights and pro-Palestinian protesters. About a dozen protesters blocked the parade near Christopher Street, video shows. The group was holding signs saying "Palestine will be free" as they sat on the roadway, according to the video.

Police said they took 14 people into custody and 10 were given summonses for disorderly conduct and released.

Four people were arrested, including Alaxia Pryor, 21, for resisting arrest and Crystal Glenn, 40, for assault, cops said. Pryor blocked traffic and refused to move and Glenn allegedly struck an officer, accoridng to the NYPD.

The suspect in the shooting remains at large, as of Monday afternoon, police said.
