German media reported that on Sunday night, a 34-year-old Iranian attacker wielding a knife assaulted police in the town of Lauf an der Pegnitz in Bavaria, Germany and was fatally shot by officers.

Police authorities stated that the man first attacked a car near a train station and then turned on police officers.

A spokesperson for the German police said that after firing at the attacker, necessary first aid was administered but proved ineffective.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Nuremberg, near the scene of this deadly incident, announced that investigations are in the initial stages, and the motive of the attacker is still unclear. The Nuremberg Public Prosecutor’s Office informed Iran International that this incident has not been classified as a terrorist attack and is being handled as a criminal case.

The German news agency added that initially, the attacker hit a police car, and after three officers exited the vehicle, he approached them with a knife.

Police initially attempted to deter the man’s attack using pepper spray and warning shots but ultimately had to fire at him. None of the German police officers were harmed in this incident.

In response to the incident, German authorities swiftly closed Franken railway station until Monday night, securing the area to reassure residents of their safety with stringent security measures in place against any ongoing threat.

Joachim Herrmann, Bavaria’s Minister of the Interior, condemned the recent attack, vowing severe repercussions for the perpetrators and advocating their expulsion from Germany.

Concurrently, the government has launched a deportation program targeting migrant individuals identified as “dangerous criminals” amid escalating incidents.
