St. Martin Parish officials announce major drug busts

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office arrested three individuals following investigations into three separate incidents.

ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY) – The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office arrested three individuals following investigations into three separate incidents.

According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies with the department assisted the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office in investigating an ATM robbery from June 24. Search warrants were obtained for in the 1100 block of Hebert Avenue in Breaux Bridge.

Deputies found over 32 lbs. of suspected synthetic cannabinoids and 600g of suspected Oxycodone. Deputies also found four large plastic bins that contained synthetic cannabinoids, a large sack of green vegetable material that is used to make synthetic cannabinoids and two large spray bottles that contained a liquid that is used in making synthetic cannabinoids.

Jared Helaire, 33 of Breaux Bridge was arrested on June 25 and charged with possession with intent to distribute a schedule I CDS and a schedule II CDS.

On June 26, Sheriff's deputies investigated possible illegal drug activity. They obtained a search warrant in the 500 block of Pratt Drive in St. Martinville and found just under 30 lbs. of suspected marijuana. Jalen Mitchell, 21 of St. Martinville was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute of a schedule I CDS.

On June 27, a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Duchamp Road in St. Martinville led to a probable cause search that found 5.5 grams of suspected crystal meth, 21 grams of suspected heroin, 6.8 suspected Adderall pills, 14.4 grams of suspected Fentanyl and a handgun.

Tresmond Jones, 29 of St. Martinville was arrested and charged with the following:

• Simple possession of a schedule I CDS
• Possession with intent to distribute of a schedule I CDS
• Possession with intent to distribute of a schedule I CDS
• Possession with intent to distribute of a schedule II CDS
• Possession of a schedule II CDS
• Possession of a firearm in the presence of CDS
• Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

All three suspects were booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center.

Sheriff Beckett Breaux spoke about how parents should be careful with who their children get items from. “What they do is get them hooked on the drugs and when they become 18, 17 years old. It becomes their best customer. Talk to your kid, have a conversation with your kids, tell them don’t take anything from strangers, even if it looks like candy don’t take it”.

Beckett Breaux also spoke to drug dealers in the parish. “If you’re an addict and you have a drug problem, we’re about helping you find a solution for your problem, but when you sell these drugs, we will do everything we can to make sure you have the maximum fine and maximum penalties for what you’ve done”.

Federal authorities are investigating these cases and federal charges are possible.
