Sports briefs: Twin Cities enters Little League tournaments as top seed

Twin Cities enters both the 9-10s and the 11s Little League District 3 playoffs this week as the top seed after the first round of play concluded on Sunday.

Twin Cities went 6-0 in 9-10s and 11s to enter both tournaments — which begin on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively — as the favorites.

The Twin Cities 9-10s, who outscored opponents 50-3 in the first round, take on San Rafael (2-4) in a quarterfinal at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Gallinas.

The other 9-10s quarterfinals, all held at the same time, see No. 2 seed Mill Valley (5-1) face No. 7 San Francisco American (2-4) at Treasure Island; No. 3 seed Novato North (5-1) face No. 6 Tiburon Peninsula (3-3) at Strawberry; and No. 4 West Marin (4-2) face No. 5 Novato South (4-2) at Central.

Twin Cities was also dominant at the 11s level, outscoring opponents 63-7 across six games. The top seeds face No. 8 Ross Valley (0-6) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Joe Wagner. The other 11s quarterfinals all take place simultaneously.

No. 2 seed Mill  Valley (5-1) takes on No. 7 West Marin (1-5) at Boyle Park. No. 3 Novato North (5-1) faces No. 6 San Rafael (2-4) at Glenwood. No. 4 Novato South (3-3) takes on No. 5 Gallinas Valley (2-4) at Bacich.

Baseball

The San Rafael Pacifics snapped a two-game losing streak emphatically with a 14-3 win Sunday against the Vallejo Seaweed.

The Pacifics (22-11 Pecos League) scored five times in the fifth inning to break open a tie game and cruise to the victory. Chris Blyskal, Beau Dorman, and Esai Santos all had three hits apiece for San Rafael while Dorman had a game-high four RBIs.

Blyskal added three RBIs, including his first home run of the season. Aki Buckson hit his sixth homer of the season. Dan Crosson came in to pitch 6.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory.

San Rafael dropped a 6-5 game to Vallejo (11-18) on Saturday. The Pacifics had Monday off before heading to Dublin for a two-game set on Tuesday and Wednesday.
