Ashleigh was excited to jet off to the Dominican Republic until she saw a TikTok video of a woman wearing a Shein bikini.

The had gone swimming, but when she got out of the pool, she realised her bikini had shrunk, leading to an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction.

The woman revealed that the reason her swimwear had shrunk was because in the label, it said that the garment was for poolside only, and was not water resistant.

Ashleigh frantically checked her swimming costumes, and revealed that they said the same thing.

Taking to TikTok, she said: “I would just like the publicly apologise in advance for whoever is going to be around the pool or at the beach with me in two weeks’ time.

“There’s no way I’m going out and buying a load more bikinis, so I apologise in advance if my bum is hanging out when I get out of the pool”.

Ashleigh urged Shein shoppers to also check their swimwear labels, to see if they are suitable for use in water.

In another video, she explained that to check swimwear before purchase, simply click on your chosen bikini and then scroll down to the description.

If the bikinis are unsuitable for pool usage their will be a disclaimer in the description, which reads: “Recommended for poolside use.

“Not water resistant”.

Ashleigh offered to be a guinea pig and “take one for the team” by wearing the bikinis in the pool to see whether they shrink.

Thankfully, she reported back that the bikinis were all fine and she managed to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions.

Ashleigh’s video, which was posted under the username @lifewith_ashleigh, has gone viral, racking up over 1.2 million views on the video sharing platform.

TikTok users raced to the video’s comments section to share their thoughts, with many concerned about their own bikinis.

What is Shein and is it legit?

Shein is an online-only fast-fashion retailer, based out of China, that has become a number one shopping destination for many around the world.

The company was valued at $66billion in 2023, dwarfing that of popular high street brands Zara and H&M.

The fashion retailer was founded in late 2008, by entrepreneur and marketing specialist Xu Yangtian, also known as Chris Xu.

Shein is a legitimate selling website and is not a phishing scam.

But you may receive a disappointing order or run into shipping issues if you order from the site, according to reviews.

There have been swathes of quality complaints, which makes sense when looking at the price tag.

One person said: “Thanks for this! I just removed a bunch of swimwear from my shopping cart.

“There is no way I can sit poolside and look cute without getting into the water.”

Another person said: “Mine didn’t shrink but black dye went all over me”.

A third person said: “I’ve bought Shein bikinis before and never had any issues they’re still perfect.

A fourth added: “This happened to me with a Boohoo swimsuit and bikini years ago”.
