Trump sentencing delayed until Sept. 18 'if such is still necessary': judge

Former President Donald Trump's sentencing in New York has been pushed back from July 11 to Sept. 18 — if it happens at all.

In a letter on Tuesday, New York Justice Juan Merchan responded to an unopposed request from Trump's attorneys to delay sentencing in light of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that the former president enjoyed some immunity for acts he made while in office.

"The July 11, 2024, sentencing date is therefore vacated. The Court's decision will be rendered off-calendar on September 6, 2024 and the matter is adjourned to September 18, 2024, at 10:00 AM for the imposition of sentence, if such is still necessary, or other proceedings," Merchan wrote.

Trump was convicted of 34 felony counts in a hush money trial earlier this year.
