Man stabbed in face, neck after argument at North Portland apartment complex: court documents

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A man was stabbed in the face several times following an argument at a North Portland apartment complex, according to court documents.

Brandon Kwok Lee, 32, is facing charges of attempted murder in the second degree, attempted assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and unlawful use of a weapon, according to court documents.

The stabbing happened on June 24 when officers responded to the scene to find a man on the ground bleeding heavily, according to the probable cause affidavit.

According to the affidavit, the man had numerous stab wounds on his face, neck and chest. He was quickly taken to the hospital.

Upon speaking to a witness at the scene, the documents said the man had been arguing with Lee outside the apartment complex and when the man left, Lee ran after him, jumped on his back and began stabbing him.

The witness said she was able to get Lee off of the victim using a "grabber tool" and then as Lee walked away he told the witness "You're next, you better watch your eyes," according to the court documents.

Later, in an interview with the stabbing victim, authorities said the stabbing victim told officers that Lee had been threatening to stab people at the apartment complex. The survivor also claimed he and Lee weren't arguing and that he had just been walking around the complex when he was attacked.

However, the documents said that later after security camera footage of the incident had been reviewed, the victim admitted that he had confronted Lee, while holding a knife, about the stabbing threats. The victim said he threw the knife at Lee, who also had a knife, before walking away, according to court documents.

In the security video, the documents said that the pair can be seen arguing before Lee attempts to slash the victim with a butcher's knife. The victim then throws two knives at Lee before walking away, which is when Lee can be seen running up behind him and attacking, according to the court documents. The witness can also be seen intervening.

A short time after the initial incident, a Portland police officer responded to a welfare check in Downtown Portland for a man who was bleeding and carrying a butcher's knife, according to the court documents.

The man who was later identified as Lee told police he had been stabbed in North Portland, the documents said.

On June 26, Lee was interviewed about the incident and Lee told police that he and the stabbing victim had been in an argument and that both of them were armed with knives and that the man had threatened to shoot him.

Lee then said that the initial stabbing victim threw the knife at him which hit him on the side, Lee then admitted to following the victim and stabbing him and according to the documents, Lee told detectives he was trying to kill the victim.

Lee is expected to face a Multnomah County judge again on July 8.
