Kansas Gov. backs Biden after shaky debate

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is reaffirming her support for President Biden, after last week's shaky presidential debate.

A spokeswoman for the Governor's Office sent a statement from the Governor, after Kelly dodged questions about the President at a ceremonial bill signing on Tuesday. The Governor opted to cut the media gaggle short, after reporters asked about whether she'll support Biden.

While I have never been shy about standing up to Washington when it’s wrong for Kansas, the President’s record of delivering bipartisan results speaks for itself. His efforts will continue to allow Kansas to recruit new manufacturing businesses, rebuild our infrastructure, and stand up for our fundamental freedoms. He is a decent man of strong character. I will support him in November.

Kelly said in her statement issued to Nexstar's Kansas Capitol Bureau.

Some democrats have called for Biden to step down, while others are continuing to support the President despite his performance on Thursday night.

Democratic governors and lawmakers are planning to meet Wednesday, following Biden's debate fallout. Nexstar's Kansas Capitol Bureau has not yet received a response on whether Governor Kelly will be in attendance.

One day after the first presidential debate, Kansas Democratic Party Chair Jeanna Repass told 27 News the state party is continuing to support Biden.
