Hays County Commissioners Court approves contract with Austin Pets Alive!

HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) -- A partnership focused on animal safety and other initiatives will continue in Hays County.

The Hays County Commissioners approved a contract with Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) to continue working with the Hays County Pet Resource Center, Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra said in a news release Tuesday.

The contract will ensure APA! "will continue to lead the development of the Pet Resource Center," the release said.

APA! originally entered a one-year agreement with the county in April 2023 to come up with recommendations for the location, budget, policies and operations of the center.

The collaboration "focuses on public safety, animal safety and lifesaving initiatives while increasing public access to important resources for pet owners," the release said.

APA! has helped the center develop a budget, policies and operations. The pet resource center said the partnership has made strides in fostering and adoptions.

"The Hays County Pet Resource Center is a prime example of how collaboration and dedication can lead to significant advancements in animal welfare," Becerra said in the release. "We are excited to expand our partnership with Austin Pets Alive! and look forward to the success of these innovative programs."
