I was convinced £150k People’s Postcode Lottery win was a SCAM… I didn’t believe the phone call was real
A GRANDMA has told how she was convinced her hefty lottery win was a scam.
Foster carer Nadene from Darlington, County Durham, almost dismissed a life-changing £150,000 People’s Postcode Lottery win.
The devoted grandma, who has been fostering for nearly 17 years, couldn’t believe her ears when she received the news.
Nadene, who shares her bustling home with her husband Paul, an HGV technician, and their extended family, had just returned from celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary at a plush spa in Durham.
Little did she know, an even bigger celebration awaited.
She said: “When I got the phone call, I didn’t think it was real,
“I was convinced it was a scam. I didn’t expect anyone to turn up. I’m still in shock. My legs are like jelly.”
Nadene’s winning postcode, DL1 3TL, made her and four lucky neighbours £150,000 richer each, bringing a whopping three-quarters of a million pounds to their Darlington cul-de-sac.
Despite her initial scepticism, Nadene is already dreaming big with her windfall. Plans for a back-garden makeover are out the window.
Instead, the family will enjoy a grand home extension to accommodate their lively brood.
She added: “We’ve always got a house full of people, so it’ll just give us that extra space we need.”
The extension will include a larger dining room and kitchen, a downstairs shower room, and an additional bedroom.
But the spending spree doesn’t stop there.
Nadene is also planning a family holiday to the Canary Islands with her daughter Emily, son Ross, and granddaughters Lily and Rosie.
She admits: “It’s just what we enjoy doing,
“It’s going to be chaotic, but I just love it. It’s going to be amazing.”
Nadene, who has cared for over 40 children during her fostering career plans to share her fortune with her family.
She said: “Family is our world. We’ll be spoiling everybody. I can’t wait.”
The prize was part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Children Trust.
Supported by their players, the trust provided grant funding to organisations that “inspire and support children and young people to make the most of their lives and opportunities”.
Benefiting charities included Young Lives vs Cancer, Magic Breakfast, and Whizz-Kidz.
So far Postcode players have raised more than £1.3billion.
