They were a trend to be reckoned with, but now, shoppers are legging it to their nearest Asda, desperate to get their hands on the latest Squishmallow range.

So if you’re a fan of The Lion King, you’ll need to prepare yourself.

Last year, more than £100 million of the colourful creatures were snapped up worldwide, with sales soaring by 11 per cent in the UK.

Even Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian are fans of the range, which includes mythical creatures such as Ace The Unicorn, vegetables and branded editions including Harry Potter, Star Wars and CoComelon.

Squishmallows were created by Sunny Cho, who worked for Kelly Toys, and launched in 2017.

The first ones included Cam the Cat, Wendy the Frog and Hans the Hedgehog.

Now there are around 3,000 designs, which adorn kids’ bedrooms across the country, each with its own name and biography.

And luckily for fans of The Lion King, Asda are now stocking the iconic Squishmallow plush toys – and you can choose from a range of your favourite characters from the classic movie.

So whether Simba or Nala are your preferred characters, or you prefer Scar, Timon or Pumbaa, there’s five adorable plush toys to choose from.

One savvy shopper was left stunned when she spotted the cheap buys in her local Asda.

Thrilled with her finds, the Disney fan took to social media to alert other shoppers.

As she shared snaps of the new toys, which are just £13 each, she said: “Calling all Lion King fans.”

She proudly gave her followers a close-up look at each character as she advised: “Run, don’t walk to Asda for the cutest Squishmallows.”

All the 90s trends that are making a comeback

WE might be in 2024, but fashion fans are looking to the past when it comes to new styles. So what trends from the 90s are making a comeback these days?

Claw clips

These hair accessories were a huge trend back in the 90s, but are now most popular among those trying out the “clean girl” aesthetic. Designers such as Prada have released their own versions, while there are thousands of colours and styles to choose from on the high street.

Platform flip flops

Again a popular choice among fashionistas in the 90s, these heels have made a comeback with designers such as Balenciaga trying their luck with their own styles.

Cargo pants

Once worn by the stars of All Saints, cargo pants became a popular trend for teens in the 90s. But they’ve now had a fashion overhaul, with stars such as Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber all putting their own spin on the trend.

Jeans and a nice top

It was the phrase that defined fashion for a decade, and now famous faces such as Sofia Richie are sporting the reinvented trend – pairing their own denims with a more sophisticated top. But are you willing to dig your jeans and nice tops out of the wardrobe for a second time?
