'A dark world': Ivanka Trump spills on why she dropped out of politics

Ivanka Trump offered her first public remarks about her father’s recent felony conviction.

The former president’s elder daughter appeared Tuesday on The Lex Friedman Podcast, where she explained why she had not remained involved in politics like her brothers after serving as a White House adviser, reported The Daily Beast.

“It’s a pretty dark world. There’s a lot of darkness, a lot of negativity, and it’s just really at odds with what feels good for me as a human being," she said.

"And, you know, it’s a really rough business. So for me and my family, it feels right to not participate."

Friedman asked whether that darkness was related to “all the legal turmoil that’s going on” and prompted her to comment on her father “going through that.”

On a human level, it’s my father and I love him very much, so it’s painful to experience,” she said. “But ultimately, I wish it didn’t have to be this way.”

Her comments came on the same day Donald Trump’s sentencing was pushed back until Sept. 18 following the U.S. Supreme Court decision granting him partial presidential immunity from prosecution.

He had previously been set for sentencing on July 11, but the court delayed that to consider how the ruling impacted his conviction.
