AN Emmerdale star was rushed to hospital after an on-set accident when a knife scene went wrong.

Charlotte Bellamy has played Laurel Thomas in the ITV soap for over 20 years, and has been at the centre of many major storylines.

Her latest sees Laurel splitting from husband Jai Sharma after discovering his lies and betrayal regarding his birth dad Amit and half-brother Suni.

However, the stress of it all sees Laurel collapse and rushed to hospital in tonight’s episode.

Appearing on today’s Lorraine to discuss her latest Emmerdale storyline, Charlotte, 51, also recalled a moment in real life when she had to be whisked off to A&E from the set.

She said: “This is something that happened on set years ago.

“During filming, I was making a Bolognese, as you do, with a very blunt knife and I’m chopping and on the take, I chop the top of my finger off.

“At the time, I was pretend pregnant as Laurel so I had to get rushed into A&E with the prop man and with my pretend bump.

“They were so confused and they were more worried about my baby but obviously, my baby wasn’t real, and nor was my husband.”

Host Lorraine laughed before joking: “And then you have to go, that’s not my husband and the baby isn’t real but I have actually chopped the top of my finger off with a knife while making Bolognese for a show… and they go ‘ahh ok’, it’s bonkers, isn’t it?”

The women also discussed Laurel’s marriage breakdown from Jai, with Charlotte admitting: “I mean it’s all bound to happen.”

“She collapses at the end of this episode due to the stress. She’s been pretty stoic about it but she’s had enough.”

When Lorraine said she wasn’t a fan of Jai – played by Chris Bisson – Charlotte replied: “He’s a bit of a rotter isn’t he?

“I think, he’s never really matched Ashley, which he quotes.”
