Following concerns over the threats posed by transnational terrorism, leaders of neighboring countries Pakistan and Tajikistan have signed a strategic cooperation agreement.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, who traveled to Tajikistan leading a high-level delegation on Tuesday, July 2nd, met with President Imomali Rahmon of Tajikistan.

In their first meeting since the formation of the new government in Pakistan, the leaders of these two countries signed a strategic cooperation agreement.

Geo News, a Pakistani media outlet covering this meeting, quoted Shehbaz Sharif as stating that neighboring countries, including Pakistan and Tajikistan, have been victims of terrorism.

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Tajik counterpart in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, he stated that “Pakistan is ready to provide cooperation in combating terrorism.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, has emphasized the continuation of Pakistan’s operations against Pakistani Taliban militants (TTP) within Afghanistan’s borders.

Pakistan has intensified its military operations inside Afghanistan, targeting Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants. This move comes amidst allegations that the Afghan Taliban provide sanctuary to TTP fighters.

The Afghan Taliban, however, refute these claims, asserting their commitment not to allow any group or individual to use Afghan soil against neighboring countries.
