Indian media have reported that severe floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in western India over the past two weeks have claimed the lives of 16 people.

According to foreign media reports, more than 300,000 people have evacuated their flood-affected homes due to intense monsoon rains affecting northeastern parts of the country.

Additionally, many roads and bridges in the states of Sikkim, Manipur, and Meghalaya have been damaged.

Meanwhile, since late May, over 80 people have lost their lives due to floods and landslides in six northeastern states of India.

The monsoon rains, which occur annually from June to September, consistently cause significant damage across various country regions.

Furthermore, India is experiencing the impacts of climate change, exacerbating the intensity and frequency of extreme weather events such as floods and landslides.

These events not only result in loss of life but also cause extensive damage to infrastructure and displacement of communities, posing severe challenges to the affected regions’ recovery and resilience efforts.
