Iconic Premier League stadium unrecognisable without PITCH as ground reduced to dirt bowl

AN iconic Premier League stadium has been left looking unrecognisable without a pitch.

In place of the hallowed turf is what appears to be a muddy field that wouldn’t look out of place at a music festival.

It is none other than Liverpool‘s home stadium of Anfield, which is undergoing work to have its pitch relaid.

It comes after the 61,276-seater stadium played host to gigs from both Taylor Swift and Pink last month.

Swift played three nights of her “Eras Tour” at the iconic English stadium in June, while Pink also played twice there towards the end of last month.

However, the aftermath of the thousands of fans who attended the shows has now been revealed.

And it was not a happy sight for the usually well-kept turf there.

Images posted online showed the pitch in bad shape compared to when it hosted Jurgen Klopp‘s final Premier League game against Wolves on May 19.

New aerial photos have revealed the state of the pitch from a birdseye view, showing the extent of the work that is needed to be done.

Anfield pitch chiefs are used to this situation however.

Last year the installation of a new pitch took three days to complete, with the turf being composed of 95 per cent grass and five per cent artificial fibres.

Turkish company Hatko Hybridgrass are the brainiacs behind the blend, with them explaining that their ‘hybrid grass’ “combines all the benefits of a natural grass playing surface with the strength and durability of synthetic grass”.

The dimensions of the new pitch will remain identical to last season at 101 by 68 metres.

The Reds kick off their Premier League season away at Ipswich before hosting Brentford in their first home game on August 24, although they will host a friendly against Sevilla at Anfield on August 11.

Last season they played 29 games on home soil across all competitions.

While they will have a new pitch underfoot, Liverpool will be led forward by a new manager in ex-Feyenoord gaffer Arne Slot.
