Tottenham won a competitive race for Archie Gray

It has been well-documented over the last week that Gray came quite close to joining Brentford before Spurs swooped for the midfielder.

According to various reports, the 18-year-old even had a medical at the Gtech Community Stadium but Leeds were unable to agree on the structure of payment with the Bees, thus allowing the Lilywhites to swoop in and complete a £40m deal (Sky Sports).

If The Times’ latest update is to be believed, it was not just Brentford who showed interest in Gray, with a long list of clubs said to have been after the teenager.

Liverpool are alleged to be one of those, with the Reds scouting the youngster extensively last year, even considering a £40m offer for him in January.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund were also thought to be keen on Gray, having been regulars at Elland Road to watch the midfielder last season.

Finally, the publication adds that Tottenham also beat out competition from Newcastle United to land the Leeds academy graduate.
