Dog park pond at Bickham-Rudkin Park temporarily closed for treatment

EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) — The City of Edmond announced on Wednesday the dog park pond at Bickham-Rudkin Park has been temporarily closed for treatment due to blue-green algae concerns.

Due to the hot summer temperatures and reduced rainfall, blue-green algae is common in pond water. However, the algae, also known as cyanobacteria, is known to produce toxins that can be harmful to dogs.

The park has locked the access gate in order to separate park users and their pets from the pond.

Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation is scheduled to treat the pond next week. The staff will keep an eye on the pond and determine when to reopen it, once the hot weather pattern changes.

For updates or changes in the status of the closure visit the City of Edmond Parks and Recreation social media page.
