Sarah Jessica Parker Is Taking a 'Risk' To Make 'And Just Like That' Cool Again

It’s no secret that the first season of And Just Like That was a rough ride. The writers’ decision to update Sex and the City with a look at what Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) were up to in their 50s felt uneven and rarely funny. While they righted the ship in Season 2, Parker is reportedly ready to make her mark with the third season and recapture some of that late ’90s magic. 

“They want the show to realize its full potential, even if they have to get there incrementally,” a source divulged to Life & Style. Their mission between the first and second seasons was to “make the show sexier, make the cast look cooler, make the fashion content relevant, and reintegrate Kim Cattrall (Samantha) into the story.” They checked off those boxes, but their goal for Season 3 is to “make the writing funnier and ‘stickier’” than ever before. 

They want to be the hot topic on X (RIP Twitter) after each episode, so “the pressure is on!” Parker thinks this is “a risk worth taking,” and that is where a lot of the budget is going — to the experienced writers on the series. That means that there will be fewer famous cameos and fancy locations, but the 59-year-old actress and producer is all-in for making this happen. The big question that remains is if Cattrall will be making another cameo again this season, even though her scene in the season finale felt like a way to repair Samantha and Carrie’s relationship and tie up the storyline. 

Given the fact that Cattrall filmed her scene alone, it’s a no-brainer to assume that she’s not open to a full-fledged return with Parker, Davis, and Nixon anytime soon. “It was an idea that we had that was really about our 25 years, and celebrating that,” Parker addressed the cameo in an interview with Sunrise. “She had surfaced in the first season, but this [is] simply taking those texts and it puts a face with it. A gorgeous face, that we love, and that the audience has loved. It’s just a quick pop, it’s just a phone call. And it’s very much familiar.”

So, Season 3 of And Just Like That will hopefully make the show feel like the old Sex and the City again, but without Cattrall dazzling viewers as Samantha every week. Sometimes, you can’t reinvent the wheel.
