Sharp fire in Simi Valley grows to 133 acres, some evacuations ordered

Residents along Ditch Road were ordered to evacuate, and homes east of Erringer Road and South of Lost Canyon Drive were under an evacuation warning. 

A neighborhood in Simi Valley was evacuated on Wednesday, July 3, after a brush fire quickly grew to more than 130 acres, authorities said.

The blaze named the Sharp fire started around 2 p.m. in the area around Sharp Road and Ditch Road. It quickly burned about five acres and threatened nearby homes, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. Multiple aircraft and helicopters are attacking the fire from the air, authorities said.

A second fire had erupted earlier nearby along Sequoia and Aspen streets, burning about four acres before it was contained.

60 homes along Ditch Road were ordered to evacuate, and homes east of Erringer Road and South of Lost Canyon Drive were under an evacuation warning.

An evacuation center was set up at the Rancho Santa Susana Community Center, located at 5005 East Los Angeles Avenue.
