LS Speaker amends rules, members can't raise slogans during oath

Speaker Om Birla has introduced a new clause to ensure MPs adhere strictly to the prescribed form of oath or affirmation during their swearing-in as Lok Sabha members. Effective from June 28, the amendment specifies that members must not add any words or expressions as prefixes or suffixes to the oath, as outlined in the Third Schedule to the Constitution of India. This action follows concerns raised by the Speaker regarding MPs deviating from the required text during oath-taking, including instances where slogans like "Jai Samvidhan," "Jai Hindu Rashtra," and "Jai Palestine" were raised.
