I’m a spoilt bride & made my dad pay £35K for a wedding dress after my brother said I looked like a ‘chicken’

STEPPING into her dream £13,000 wedding dress, Christina Singh admired the huge ruffles and figure-hugging corset top.

She felt stunning, and it was an icing on the cake moment for the bride to be whose dad insisted that money was no object for his daughter’s big day.

However, her brother delivered some brutal home truths because despite the eye watering price tag he was far from impressed – he said she looked like a chicken.

Christina, 27, was over the moon when her parents told her there was no budget for her wedding and she had her heart set on a gown made by world-renowned bridal dress designer Pnina Tornai.

Her dad even made her dress dreams come true and made an appointment with the designer herself.

“Everywhere we go we get a lot of compliments…We’re like a movie star couple

Bride Christina

Speaking about Christina on TLC‘s Say Yes To The Dress, her mum, Sarina explains: “I spoil her, her dad spoils her even more.

“She always gets what she wants, and she always gets the best.”

“I know I’m my dad’s favourite,” Christina added.

Christina, who is planning an enormous wedding with over 500 guests, needed a huge statement dress.

Describing herself and husband-to-be as akin to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, she says:

“Everywhere we go we get a lot of compliments.

“We’re like a movie star couple”.

The dress, with a ruffled mermaid cut and embroidered with thousands of jewels, caught Christina’s eye as soon as she saw it online.

“This dress is exactly what I want,” she says.

“Glitzy and glamorous, this might be the dress.”

And on the day of the big try on, Christina couldn’t wait to hear family’s thoughts, but the response wasn’t what she’d expected.

Wedding Dress Trends 2024

Sophie Creed, bridal designer and founder of bridal brand e&w Couture shared the most popular wedding dress designs for this year.

Sustainable Chic

Bridal fashion in 2024 is embracing a powerful shift towards sustainability, with brides looking closely at what fabrics are being used to make the dresses.

Many brides are also looking to wear a second-hand dress or a vintage number.

Boho Bliss

The bohemian aesthetic is effortless and laid-back elegance – ideal for relaxed weddings. Whether in a garden, on a beach, or under the stars, the boho trend is also great for nature-inspired weddings.

Couples opting for outdoor venues, and bohemian-inspired dresses with flowing silhouettes, floral lace, and whimsical details with blend in with the natural setting. It’s about bringing the romance of the outdoors into the wedding wardrobe.

Bohemian-inspired dresses often feature vintage-inspired lace, flowing sleeves, and ethereal details that stand the test of time.

Satin Elegance

Satin wedding dresses are capturing the hearts of brides who appreciate the marriage of modern simplicity and classic luxury.

This trend suits weddings that prioritize an elegant, refined aesthetic, making it an ideal choice for formal celebrations, chic city weddings, or any event where the bride envisions herself in a gown that exudes sophistication and grace.

Bold Romance

Oversized and bold modern showcase a shift in bridal fashion.

This trend is for the bride who dares to be different, breaking away from tradition and embracing a vibrant, contemporary aesthetic on the most important day of her life.

Bursting into uncontrollable laughter, her brother scoffs: “You look like a bird.

“I think it looks like a chicken, or an ostrich.”

Her father also shared his own criticism of the dress.

“I don’t like the top, I can see though it,” he complains, referring to the see-through bodice of the frock.

“But that’s the style!” Christina argues, to her dad’s disapproval.

“No, no, no, no, no,” he replies.

However, Pnina thought Christina looked stunning in the gown, and called her a “diva”.

Trying to persuade Christina’s father to change his mind about the gown, the designer says: “It’s just that today, the fashion is more sexy.”

“I’m from the old school,” her father admits.

Christina then tried on three more dresses, but loved them all so much, she couldn’t decide.

In the end, Christina’s dad agreed to spend a whopping £35,000 on a custom made dress, which combines aspects of both the chicken dress, and the other dresses she tried on.

It has a beaded lace bodice and a mermaid tail fit, which flows elegantly to the floor.

“This dress is going to be worth every penny,” Christina beams.
