More tenants at Oxford Oaks without A/C turn to News 4 for help
EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) — More tenants from Oxford Oaks say their A/C is broken and management won't fix it.
After News 4's first story ran last week, more than 10 people reached out saying they are experiencing the same problem.
News 4 spoke with three people Wednesday who said they have been dealing with no air conditioning for nearly two months, with no communication from management about fixing it.
After seeing the News 4 story, they believe we are their only hope of getting a solution.
"I'm seeing things done, so I was like, well, I might need to reach out to them too, because my needs are not being met either," said Suzanne Luke a tenant at Oxford Oaks.
After News 4 stepped in to help a tenant at Oxford Oaks who had been without working A/C for nearly two months, more tenants are coming forward with the same problem.
"It shouldn't come to that," Luke said.
But it has, as tenants live through the heat inside of their apartments and outside, with temperatures hitting the triple digits this summer.
"It's awful because I work in a warehouse eight to 11 hours a day, it is not on climate controlled," Toby Schramm, a tenant at Oxford Oaks said. "So, whatever the temperature is outside, that's the temperature I'm working inside. I come home and it's pretty much the same thing."
They have all put in work orders dating back to May and talked to management in person multiple times, but still haven't had anyone come out to fix their air conditioning.
"Had a work order put in on May 22nd about the AC not working, and then they closed it out around around the 20th of June saying that it had been fixed," Rachelle Phannenstiel, a tenant at Oxford Oaks said. "Then when I came home that night, I turned all my stuff off and I turned the AC back on and my apartment went up four degrees."
"When I ask them about my AC, they said there's a whole bunch of other people waiting as well," Schramm said. "And I said, well, can I at least see the list to see where I might be at in the waiting queue, you know? And then they said, 'well, we don't have that information.'"
News 4 once again reached out to Nova Property Network, who owns Oxford Oaks, but no answered.
The tenants have turned to buying fans and window units to try to stay cool, an unexpected cost they say they shouldn't have to pay in the first place.
"The outcome I'm looking for is to get the AC repaired and for them just to do their job," Luke said.
"I just want them to come fix everybody's apartments like I mean, the A/C is the biggest problem," Phannenstiel said.
Under Oklahoma's Landlord-Tenant Act, renters can be reimbursed up to one month's rent if repairs to essential services are not repaired within 14 days.
