The youngster had been rushed to hospital after an out-of-control hound launched at him, but he sadly could not be saved.

His parents, Mark Twigg and Joanne Bedford, have today been charged with gross negligence manslaughter.

A huge cane corso – an Italian mastiff breed that can weigh up to seven-and-a-half stone – has been destroyed after the attack.

LancsLive reported Trigg and Bedford were named as Daniel’s parents at an inquest into his death.

The coroner found the tot went into cardiac arrest after suffering head and neck injuries and tragically died in hospital hours after the mauling.

Ten other hounds were also seized from the home after the death of young Daniel.

Greater Manchester Police this afternoon said: “Two charged with gross negligence manslaughter of three-year-old Daniel Twigg in 2022.

“Daniel sadly died after sustaining injuries as a result of being attacked by a dangerous dog on Tunshill Lane, Milnrow in Rochdale on Sunday 15 May, 2022.

“Mark Twigg and Joanne Bedford both of King Street, Radcliffe, have been charged with gross negligence manslaughter.

“They have been notified to attend a scheduled court appearance at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court on Wednesday 31 July 2024.”

Paying tribute at the time of the tragedy, the youngster’s family said: “Daniel was a happy, kind and caring little boy who was loved by all who knew him.

“He loved Paw Patrol and playing with his brother and sister, he also loved being around animals – especially his pony, Splash.

“He brought us many laughs and was a comical character.

“He was brave, intelligent and full of many characteristics.

“Daniel loved being with his whole family and will be missed by all.

“On behalf of our family, we ask people to respect our privacy.”
