I told my friend she ‘ruined’ her baby’s life with the name she chose – the spelling is so bad I thought it was a joke

A FRIEND has been left feeling uneasy about her buddy’s choice for her daughter’s name.

The unusual moniker could otherwise be a lovely one according to her, but the mother doesn’t see things the same way.

Redditor Addie_maylen detailed the madness in a post on the social media platform.

The friend, who was also the godmother of the baby, said that the news was broken to her by the father of the child.

“[My friend] recently gave birth to her daughter and her and her husband recently told us the name,” she said.

“They decided to name their daughter Ghiuliyette (pronounced Juliet) and her middle name is Mahriya.

“I thought the spelling was a joke until she told me they are serious.

“I told her, that with that spelling of a simple but beautiful name is just going to ruin that little girl’s life.

“She got mad and told me to stop ‘ruining’ her mood and that I’m being mean.”

After a back and forth between her and her friend, they briefly parted ways, but reconnected.

The father, however, wasn’t as forgiving about the situation.

“[The husband] actually blocked me everywhere and is telling [the mother] to do so, too, because he thinks that I’m manipulating and that I’m lying just so we can get close again,” she said.

“Doesn’t make sense. I don’t know. Well, either way, it’s getting better with the relationship, just not with the name.”

NAME BLAME

Several Redditors gave their thoughts on the unusual spelling for an otherwise classic name.

“Hi. I’m a high school teacher,” one wrote.

“I’ll tell you upfront that you’re right. Kids with f****d up spellings of their names are miserable about three-fourths of the time.

“It’s difficult to spell, people mispronounce them, and official documents? Forget about it.

“And we definitely judge parents.

“We don’t think their kids’ names, looking like they just picked 10 random scrabble tiles out of the box, are cute and unique.

“We think their parents are stupid and immature, like contestants on an early 2000’s reality show like Flavor of Love or something.

“It’s one of the ways we clock parents as potentially difficult.

“I keep in touch with three students who changed their names from their parents’ spelling to the actual conventional spelling the minute they turned 18.

“That kid will be “Juliet Maria” as soon as she possibly can.”
