National Weather Service extends excessive heat warning through Monday

The National Weather Service out of Portland has extended the 'Excessive Heat Warning' along the Willamette Valley through Monday, July 8, 2024.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The National Weather Service out of Portland has extended the 'Excessive Heat Warning' along the Willamette Valley through Monday, July 8.

Dangerously hot temperatures are expected to take much of the Pacific Northwest through the start of next week. Afternoon and early evening temperatures will likely climb into the triple-digits on Friday and continue through Monday.

Even after the excessive heat warning ends Monday evening, temperatures will still be near 100 degrees. Temperatures will remain above average by nearly 10-15 degrees through the middle if not even the end of next week.

Very little relief from the heat will be felt during the overnight hours. Lows are only expected to fall into the upper 60s to low 70s. That will allow morning sunrise temperatures to warm rapidly and continue to do so through the early morning.

Heat-related illnesses are at a greater likelihood this weekend and into next week. Staying hydrated, taking frequent breaks indoors with air conditions will be a must.
