‘It looks like a sexy nightie!’ stunned people exclaim as woman shows off dress she bought for pal’s nuptials

IT can be hard to find a dress that’s suitable in both style and colour for a wedding.

But one woman has admitted she thought she’d found the perfect one in a pale blue number.

However, when she started taking pictures of the dress with a flash, she saw that it was turning white – sparking her concern that it might not be appropriate for a wedding.

Her other worry was that the revealing dress was too sexy to wear to someone’s nuptials.

“My concern is mainly the slit on the side, I’m assuming this is too high?” she wrote alongside a picture of said dress in Reddit’s ‘Wedding attire approval’ thread.

“It goes without saying that I would be wearing different underwear and wouldn’t have my bra exposed.

“The cut of the dress means that there isn’t any cleavage on show.”

She added that while a couple of her friends had told her it was appropriate, her “gut is saying no”.

And the majority of people in the comments section insisted she should trust her gut, as the dress isn’t appropriate to wear to a wedding.

“Material is too casual,” one wrote.

“Dress is too tight (body is BODYING, it’s about appropriateness).

“Seams and bow gives it night gown vibes.”

“That dress is for when you are the star,” another added.

“That is not someone else’s wedding!”

“This looks like something you wear under a dress,” a third commented.

“The silhouette, the little bow, the visible stitching on the cups…it all gives the impression of a slip or shapewear.”

“Yeah anything with those wee bows reads undergarment to me,” someone else agreed.

As another added: “It’s also way too tight, which makes it look even more like shapewear.”

Wedding Guest Outfit Etiquette

If you're struggling to decided on a dress to see you through wedding season, here's a few rules on what not to wear so you don't get in trouble.

  • Folklore says that wearing red at a wedding means you slept with the groom.
  • Casual attire like jeans and flip flops should always be avoided.
  • Any colour that could be picked up as white or cream – even if it’s not.
  • Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered.
  • Wearing white is a massive no-no if you’re not the bride.

“The bow, structure around the breast area, low cut front, slit, and the material – all make it look like a sexy nightgown or something,” someone else said.

“It’s also extremely tight. I would say not appropriate for a wedding guest (although you look great in it).”

“No, it looks like lingerie,” another advised.

“The colour is nice, but try to find something that isn’t as tight-fitting.

“Also as a general rule for weddings, you can have cleavage or a side-slit, not both.”

“No. People would think you’re trying to draw attention from the bride,” someone else sighed.

And others insisted that while the dress isn’t appropriate for a wedding, she should save it for another more suitable occasion.

“It is a great dress and it looks fantastic on you, but save it for a night out on the town,” one wrote.

“Wear this everywhere but a wedding lol,” another added.

“It’s totally banging on you!”

“No for a wedding but you look gorgeous in it girl!!!” a third praised.

As someone else said: “Not for a wedding, but find somewhere else to wear it, because it was made for you.”
