iPhone owners warned they may miss out on six free upgrades including supercharged Siri and eye-tracking – check now

YOUR iPhone might not be eligible for six fresh iOS 18 features Apple has recently unveiled – even if you think it’s pretty new.

The company announced its iOS 18 update in early June, showing off a raft of new features like App Lock, RCS Support and Apple Intelligence.

Not all iPhone models are getting iOS 18.

But even devices that are compatible with iOS 18, will not be eligible for every new feature.

The big feature missing from the majority of iPhones will be Apple Intelligence, the company’s juicy AI offering.

Apple Intelligence is needed for a number of smaller new features to work, such as custom emoji or Genmoji, AI image creation as well as a host of writing tools.

The AI will also be behind a supercharged version of Siri that, with iOS 18, will be able to provide ChatGPT-like responses to your questions.

However, Apple Intelligence – and the features it enables – will be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and eventually the iPhone 16 lineup.

Live transcription

Apple Notes is getting a number of upgrades in iOS 18, but namely the ability to transcribe recordings even when the audio is being recorded live.

This feature, however, will only work on iPhone 12s and later.

Home app upgrade

With iOS 18, the Home app will let customers unlock doors hands-free that are bolted shut with an Ultra Wideband smart lock.

But this is only an option on iPhone 11s and newer.

Eye tracking

Eye tracking is a new accessibility feature that will allow iPhone and iPad users to navigate their device using just their eyes.

For this, you will need an iPhone 12 and later, or an iPhone SE 3rd generation.

TV and movie boost

The Enhance Dialogue feature coming to iPhones and iPads – after landing on Apple 4k TVs last year – will bring a nice boost to TV and movie viewing.

But to enjoy the upgrade, you’ll need an iPhone 11 or newer.

Music Haptics

Music Haptics sync the iPhones Taptic Engine with whatever song is playing to help people who are hard of hearing feel the music.

The Taptic Engine is responsible for the little vibrations your iPhone makes, like when you long-press on something.

However, this is only available in iPhone 12s and later.
