Share Market Highlights 5 July 2024: Sensex dips, Nifty50 hits record amid energy stock gains

Sensex, Nifty updates on 5 July 2024: India’s Nifty 50 achieved another record closing high on Friday, marking its longest weekly rising streak this year. Gains in energy stocks offset a decline in top private lender HDFC Bank. The NSE Nifty 50 rose 0.09% to 24,323.85, while the S&P BSE Sensex fell 0.07% to 79,996.6 points. The Nifty 50 reached record highs in four of five sessions this week, and the Sensex did so three times, both adding 1.2% this week. Despite early slips on Friday, the IT index saw a 4.3% weekly gain, driven by soft U.S. economic data boosting rate cut expectations. Infosys, Wipro, HCLTech, and Tata Consultancy Services were top Nifty 50 gainers. HDFC Bank fell 4.6% after reporting a decline in gross advances and flat deposits. Reliance Industries hit a record high with a 2% gain. Small-caps and mid-caps also rose about 0.8% each on Friday.
