Minor League Recap: A rough day for the Guardians affiliates
Minor League Recap for Friday, July 5th, 2024
Mud Hens 5, Columbus Clippers 3
Kyle Manzardo and Jose Tena both returned to the lineup yesterday. Manzardo went 0-3 with a BB but had a 109 mph exit velocity lineout. Jose Tena went 2-3 with a BB. Bryan Lavastida went 1-4 with a 3 run HR.
Joey Cantillo continues to miss bats since his return, but he also hasn’t been able limit the walks. He only got through 3.2 innings yesterday due to a high pitch count of 89. He allowed one run while striking out five and walking four. Andrew Walters struck out three batters in 1.2 innings.
It wasn’t a great day for the Akron offense. They were limited to just 3 hits total, 2 of those coming from Kody Huff, and the other coming from Aaron Bracho.
Parker Messick struggled in his second AA start after dominating in his first one. He allowed 5 runs on 6 hits in just 2.2 innings pitched. He was able to strike out 6 batters though which is still encouraging despite the overall results.
Carter Spivey threw an absolute gem last night. He threw 8 innings, allowing zero runs and striking out 7 while walking just 1. Unfortunately Steve Hajjar and Jay Driver gave up 6 runs in 2 innings of relief.
Cooper Ingle went 3-5 with a 2 run HR. He’s up to a .330 batting average and a .924 OPS on the season, I’m hoping to see him promoted to Akron soon. Maick Collado went 1-3 with a walk and a 2 run HR.
Esteban Gonzalez went 2-4 and extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Gonzalez is having a great season, hitting .303 with an .857 OPS. I’m expecting him to be promoted soon since he’s 21 years old in Low-A. Juan Benjamin went 1-4 with a 3 run HR. Ralphy Velazquez went 1-5 and Jaison Chourio went 0-4.
Dylan Delucia made his Low-A debut last night after recovering from Tommy John surgery. The results weren’t great as he gave up 2 runs in 2.2 innings but he did strike out 4 batters. As Delucia works his way back, the only thing that matters right now is that he is healthy.
ACL Angels 3 , ACL Guardians 2
A rough day offensively for the ACL Guardians, as they were held to just 2 total hits.
Austin Aldeano pitched a really good game, throwing 5 innings without allowing a single run and striking out 4 batters while also walking 4.
DSL CLE Mendoza 0, DSL CLE Goryl 3
Top international signing SS Gabriel Rodriguez continues his insane season in the DSL. He went 1-2 with a walk, and is now hitting .422 with a 1.185 OPS. He is definitely someone to keep an eye on.
