'Foolhardy nonsense': Experts decimate latest hot take on Donald Trump's reelection bid

Election forecasters who predicted Donald Trump's 2016 victory call the latest hot take on his reelection bid unequivocally absurd, according to a new report.

Three professors with successful track records of predicting presidential election outcomes rolled their collective eyes at calls for President Joe Biden to give up and go home, Newsweek reports.

"This is all foolhardy nonsense," Allan Lichtman, an American University history professor, reportedly said. "The same pundits and pollsters that led us down the primrose path in 2016 are giving the Democrats horrible advice."

Newsweek notes that Lichtman's Keys model has correctly predicted every presidential election winner since 1984.

His pull-no-punches assessment tracks with predictions from Helmut Norpoth, a Stony Brook University political science professor, and Ray Fair, a Yale University economics professor, both of whom project Biden victories in November, according to Newsweek.

Fair views Biden as the favorite for the popular vote with about 51.7 percent of the two-party share, according to the report.

Fair's projection also found Democrats would drop more than two points with another candidate.

Norpoth's Primary Model gives Biden a 75 percent chance of winning in the Electoral College.

"What also benefits Biden in the general election is an electoral cycle that favors the sitting president," said Norpoth. "In a nutshell, a White House incumbent facing no significant challenge in primaries almost always wins re-election."
