The second round of voting in Iran’s presidential election began on Friday morning, the 5th of June.

Shortly after polls opened, Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, cast his vote.

In this round, Masoud Pezeshkian and Saeed Jalili are competing against each other.

In the first round held last Friday, over 60% of eligible voters abstained from casting their ballots.

According to official statistics released by Iran’s Ministry of Interior, 61,452,321 individuals were eligible to vote inside and outside the country.

Masoud Pezeshkian secured 10,415,991 votes, while Saeed Jalili received 9,473,298 votes, propelling them both to the second round of elections, which many Iranian citizens have viewed as symbolic.

According to official figures, 61,452,321 individuals can vote in this round in Iran and abroad.

The turnout and the results of the first round highlight a significant segment of the Iranian electorate abstaining from participating, reflecting varying sentiments and expectations towards the electoral process.

The outcome of the second round will be closely watched, shaping Iran’s political landscape for the coming years amidst both domestic and international scrutiny.
