Barcelona are set to fail in pursuit of Tottenham target – Fabrizio Romano
According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are now unlikely to win the race for Hull City winger Jaden Philogene, who is on the radar of a number of Premier League sides, including Spurs.
Jaden Philogene has been linked with Spurs
Philogene had an extremely impressive first season at the MKM Stadium following his switch from Villa Park last summer, terrorising Championship defences with his pace and dribbling ability.
A number of outlets (including TEAMtalk and Football Insider) have reported this summer that Spurs had been impressed by the 22-year-old’s displays in the Championship and that they are leading the race for his signature.
Earlier this week, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed that Barca had now entered the race to sign the Englishman.
The journalist took to social media to state that the Catalan giants have launched a loan offer with an obligation to buy for around €20m-€23m (£17m-£19.5m).
Barca move unlikely for Philogene
However, according to Romano’s information, the La Liga giants are not likely to win the race for Philogene’s signature.
This is because the England Under-21 international does not want to move to Spain and is prioritising interest from the Premier League sides.
Interestingly, Romano makes no mention of Spurs, instead naming Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town and Everton as the clubs after the winger, adding that the player will make a decision soon on his next destination.
More recently, Philogene himself admitted that he will be joining a Premier League club this summer.

Tottenham need a top-class winger who will improve their starting eleven and despite Philogene’s high ceiling, he is not one such option. The youngster would also likely want to join a smaller Premier League club in order to give himself the best chance of getting game time.
