LEGO Unveils Detailed Set Based on Steven Spielberg’s ‘Jaws'

Lego unveiled its tongue-in-cheek set recreating a classic 'Jaws' scene along with a 90-second parody of Spielberg's classic ahead of the set's August 6 launch.

Just in time for beach weather, LEGO has released a highly detailed new set based on the movie which made everyone afraid of the water—Steven Spielberg’s Jaws.

Designed by Jaws (and LEGO) superfan Johnny Campbell, who hails from Ireland, the 1,497-piece set depicts one of the movie’s most famous sequences, in which the eponymous beast chows down on the Orca boat carrying Chief Brody (Roy Scheider), Quint (Robert Shaw), and Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss).

Figurines of Brody, Quint, and Hooper are included along with Jaws itself, which comes in multiple pieces and requires construction. The Orca boat itself has a detailed cabin and comes with a removable roof.

Other props included are a revolver, compass, fishing rod, harpoon, spear, and the highly flammable yellow barrels that help put an end to Jaws’ reign of terror. A display tile features the film’s most famous line: “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

The set is a product of the LEGO Ideas platform, which produces designs from builders around the globe based on internal reviews and fan voting. Campbell submitted two ideas for his Jaws set; his second, submitted in 2022, eventually won over executives and LEGO aficionados alike.

“LEGO building has always been a part of my life in some shape or form but in order to get all of the finer details, I actually freeze-framed Jaws as I watched it so that I could catch a glimpse of the finer details, taking notes as I went along,” Campbell explained in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter).

“It is just mind-blowing that my design is now an official LEGO set," he marveled. "I can’t wait to stand in a LEGO shop looking at the shelves and seeing a set that I have been involved with and watching someone buying it.”

As part of the marketing campaign for the terrifying new set, LEGO released a 90-second version of Spielberg’s classic dubbed Jaws in a Jiffy. Though LEGO is known for its animated parodies, this is the first time the company has released such a spoof in conjunction with a new set.

LEGO Insiders will get early access to the Jaws set on August 3. Everyone else will have to wait until its general release on August 6. It retails for $149.99.
