‘Botched’ tattoo baffles critics who can’t decipher the ‘wacky’ & ‘unreadable’ script: ‘We need to teach kids cursive’
ONE woman’s body art has people confused over the true meaning of the ink.
The tattoo seems to be spelling out a word, but critics can’t seem to decipher its exact meaning.
Redditor Ysolanna_ posted the body modification on the social media platform.
The word was written out on the woman’s upper midriff.
“Wet wipes or vibes?” the Redditor asked other users.
The post had people scratching their heads, wondering if it could be an issue with the font, a misspelling, or a foreign language.
WHAT DID IT SAY?
The tattoo appeared to read a variety of potential words, from “vibes” to “vipes” — a non-English word.
Several Redditors took a stab at guessing what the tattoo actually said.
“Vipes,” one wrote.
“It’s an Estonian word meaning ‘in the blink of an eye,'” another added.
However, an Estonian-speaker quickly chimed in to debunk the guess.
“No it isn’t,” the Redditor said. “I’m Estonian and all I see there is ‘nipes.’
“‘Silmapilgust’ would be in the blink of an eye. Or ‘hetkega’ (hetkeliselt, koheselt).
“Neither ‘nipes’ nor ‘vipes’ means anything meaningful in Estonian.”
“Why the f*** did you get a tattoo like that?” yet another said.
“It literally reads ‘vipes’ to anyone who can read cursive. The ‘b’ is horrible.
“I’d literally get it re-done. Call me a hater, I don’t care. This looks so wacky and ridiculously spaced out between the ‘v’ and ‘i’ alongside the ‘p’ and ‘e.’
“All in all a genuine two out of 10 of a tattoo for me. Could be worse, but for such a simple tattoo it’s absolute dog s**t.”
Another Redditor described the tattoo as a reason to improve the educational system.
“This is what happens when you stop teaching people cursive,” they said. “You get unreadable tattoos.”
“It’s ‘nipes’ it’s a cursive ‘n,’ what happens when kids aren’t taught cursive any longer,” another wrote.
“It’s either ‘vipes’ or ‘nipes,’ either way it’s botched badly as that is not a ‘b’ at all, but a ‘p,'” one more said.
