Subway signal upgrades close G train in Brooklyn and Queens

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Check before you travel this weekend. 

Crews are upgrading the system, and there are three major reroutes. 

Shuttle buses are running along the G, F, and Franklin Avenue Shuttle train lines. 

G train signal work started at the end of June. Beginning Friday night at 9:45, the G train closure extends from Court Square in Queens to Bedford-Nostrand in Bedstuy, Brooklyn, until August 11th. 

Another closure on the south end of the G train will run from August to mid-September. 

Hector Zamora is a longtime MTA Transit employee who has been designated as the G Train Czar. On Friday morning, he met with riders and the interim head of transit in Brooklyn to check on shuttle buses and spread the word. 

“One of the things I wanted to focus on with this project was the customer experience. The work is important, but the most important part is making sure the customers get to where they are going as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said NYC Transit G Train Project Czar Zamora.

Bus operators and planners with the Department of Buses coordinate schedules, parking and directions for dozens of buses. 

More than 80 buses are involved in the G train’s free bus bridge. 

Service will be suspended in three phases during the initial parts of this major project. 

The project goal is 2027 for the G line’s upgraded signal system.

Signal modernization continues with some

weekend closures this summer through September on the F line. 

The F will run in Queens and between those stops and Brooklyn. Church Avenue will be the final stop in Kensington. 

The F will not run to Coney Island this weekend. Free shuttle buses are making the commute.
