Day after holiday marks final day to buy fireworks in Shawnee Co.

ROSSVILLE (KSNT) - This year, Friday, July 5 was the final day you could purchase fireworks in Shawnee County.

This is a change from last year when the Fourth of July was the final day to purchase fireworks within county limits. This allowed firework tent operations to stay open for an extra day. One tent in Rossville gives a portion of their sales to the Rossville American Legion Post No. 31.

KSNT 27 News spoke with someone from the legion who said the tent helps keep the legion open.

"Just help keeps it open. The main thing we strive to," Charles Foster, First Vice of the Rossville American Legion Post No. 31 said. "Some of them Vietnam veterans, really need to have somebody talk to them and listen to them. Mainly listen to them. That's really cool to have that open."

While you could purchase fireworks in Shawnee County on July 5, you could not set them off.
