Telangana HC allows 12-year-old rape victim to undergo abortion of 26-week foetus

The Telangana High Court has authorized the abortion of a 26-week-old foetus for a 12-year-old rape survivor. The court directed the Superintendent of Gandhi Hospital to perform the procedure within 48 hours and collect tissue and blood samples for DNA testing. Initially, doctors refused due to the advanced stage of pregnancy, but the court intervened, highlighting the mental and physical trauma to the victim if the pregnancy continued. The court ordered that a senior gynaecologist conduct the procedure.
