Experts reveal how to make your suitcase stand out after couple have ‘baggage stolen from carousel’

EXPERTS have revealed the top tips to keep your luggage safe this summer after a family had theirs nicked right off the airport carousel.

Despite the couple having hesitations about their luggage going into the hold, they reluctantly agreed.

The family, from Utah, were brought some sense of relief as they were able to track their baggage on the airlines app.

But upon landing and going to the airport carousel, Sarah said they were waiting for hours to get their suitcase – and left empty handed.

Their luggage was mostly made up of souvenirs and clothes but Sarah expressed her frustration of how these errors happen in a system that has remained the same for decades.

She said: “If you’re going to make it so secure to get in. Can you also make it secure for our luggage to get back to us?”

Now The Salt Lake City Police Department has shared expert advice to save your luggage going missing this summer.

They said the best thing travellers can do to prevent stolen luggage is to set your bag apart from the rest.

SLCPD Detectivr Dalton Beebe said: “Put ribbons. Stickers, you know, something to identify that it’s your bag, coming through the baggage claim.”

They also urged tourists to keep expensive and irreplaceable items in your carry-on so you can watch your prize possessions.

Travellers this summer should not just worry about their luggage, but check their passports too.

The Money Saving Expert, Martin Lewis, warned those gearing up for their summer holiday to check their passport and not to assume it is still valid.

The personal finance guru said:  “There are two things you need to check.

“First of all, and this is all about the day you enter the country, there should be generally more than six months left on your passport.

“If you’re going to the EU it’s more than three months left.”

He added: “Now, most people know that but what they don’t know is that you also need to check that your passport is not over 10 years old on the day that you enter.

“Many countries will not let you in if your passport is older than 10 years.

“This is not a small thing. People get sent back and you can’t travel.

“You need to check the specific rules of that country. If you’re out of date, you need to get it renewed.”
