News and Notes for Saturday, July 6th, 2024

Yesterday was my birthday and my oldest son and I celebrated at Progressive Field, watching the Giants-Guardians game.

The organization has done so much to make the ballpark a fun place for little kids. My son loves being there. He even watches some of the game. His enjoyment of the experience is unaffected by wins and losses. And so... I cannot allow my feelings to get in the way of the beauty of that.

I don't mail these articles in. But, this time, I'm giving myself special grace to say just that this game was a frustrating mess. Why is Gabriel Arias still on this roster? Why is Jose Ramirez swinging at pitches at his shoelaces? Why did Tanner Bibee take a full inning to remember how to pitch? Why did Bo Naylor pick last night to have his first bad hitting night in like two weeks? Will the small village the Guardians left on base form a more cogent system of government than the one in which I currently find myself?

We may never know. But, Andres Gimenez and Angel Martinez had great games. Martinez looks like he belongs in the bigs. And Brayan Rocchio had a clutch double, the only clutch hit the whole game.

As I finish typing this, the fireworks are about to start and my son is done snacking and ready to enjoy them. So off I go to be a dad.

Today was just how baseball is. I hate it.

See you later this afternoon, Guardians.

P.S. Royals and Twins lost, too.
