Police warn of online scammers pretending to be Fidias

The police on Saturday warned people to be wary of online scammers pretending to be social media influencer and member of the European parliament Fidias Panayiotou.

They said the posts describe investments which the scammers claim were made by Panayiotou and “yield large financial returns”.

Additionally, the scammers use information which they claim was sourced from the BBC and other similar organisations to reinforce the claims made in the posts.

The police called on the public to be “extremely careful” and to not believe such posts, as they are scams.

They also urged people who wish to make investments to only do so through registered and licenced financial institutions.
