People think I have a god-awful name but my dad wanted to give me an army-inspired moniker with a ‘K’ that is even worse

The Texan woman vented about her name on Reddit’s Tragedeigh forum, which has over 381,000 members.

NONSENSICAL NAME

She tagged the post “roast my name” as she gave people the opportunity to share their opinions.

“My father DESPERATELY wanted to name me Kamouflage,” she said, writing under the handle Dizzy_Blonde_Tired.

“The K was because I’m a girl. My mother convinced him to name me ‘Cambree’ so I could have the nickname ‘Camo’ without the feminine K.

“My nickname turned from Camo to Cami by the time I was a year old because nobody in the family is crazy.

“Apparently, from what I’ve heard, Cambree is still a god-awful name, but I digress.

“Thought y’all would appreciate how my mom saved me from a tragedeigh lol.”

She said her parents got the name “Cambree” from a baby book.

According to BabyNames.com, “Cambree” is an American name that means “from Wales.”

MEMORABLE MONIKERS

Almost 5,000 people upvoted the Redditor’s post and many commenters confessed they were baffled why her dad thought Kamouflage would be feminine if spelled with a “K.”

“Why are ‘K’s’ feminine? Keith, Kevin for example are traditional boy names,” one person said.

“I’m lost at how a K is feminine, but then I have a name that could be spelled with one and isn’t, so maybe I’m predisposed to misunderstand,” another said.

“I don’t think Cambree is a bad name at all, though. Good save from Mom.”

“At least it’s not Kahmbreigh,” a third said. “I’m glad you avoided Kamouflage, hopefully, your Dad got to name a pet that.”

“If it makes your dad feel any better, I was in the Marines, and we referred to our camouflage uniforms as ‘cammies,’” another joked.

How to pick a baby name

According to Parents.com, there are various categories parents can consider when deciding on a baby’s name.

These include:

  • Family tradition
  • Cultural names
  • Place names
  • Pop culture
  • Religious names
  • Colors
  • Nature
  • History
  • Astrology

Other responses to the post shared bizarre names they’d heard.

“My 16-year-old mother wanted to name me HoneyLynn,” one person said.

“My much older father would not hear of it. Instead, I am named after a ’70s Four Seasons song!”

“A girl I went to high school with named her daughter Korona,” another said. “Because Corona is her father’s favorite beer. Poor girl.”

“I knew a woman whose name is Indika and her sister Satihva.. their parents are hippies and artists,” a third chimed in.

“Cambree isn’t a terrible name, I think people here are overcorrecting from the really zany stuff,” a fourth commented.

“That or I just grew up in Utah around names like MacKynzlee and Kayzli lmao.”
